Exotic Morocco, Travel Talk Tour: Chefchaouen, Day 5
Day 5: Chefchaouen to Fes
This morning we woke up for breakfast in Tetouan. Sadly it was a bit disappointing but that’s okay. Like Egypt the majority of our options were bread or pastry. We later learned that the chef didn’t show for work and the staff were scrambling.
About 15 minutes into our drive, the bus lost another suspension airbag. We limped along into the city where Shoey (our driver) would take the bus to repair and reinflate the airbag again. We arrived back in Chefchaouen, the blue city. We walked straight up the hill to the Spanish mosque for photos and enjoy some time to take group photos. We walked down and checked out some streets taking photos of the blue walls. Then went into the royal garden and took a look around, (50MAD). The garden was quiet and peaceful after the busy streets outside. The café was closed but we enjoyed the chance to take some photos from a different angle of the city. Afterward we found a lovely little cafe where we had juice and coffee before leaving for the bus. On the way down we bought bananas, avocados and kiwis from a local vendor.
The bus journey took us across to Fez. Upon arrival at about 7pm, the hotel (Royal Mirage Fes Hotel) was lovely, with a central pool and many little tables for sitting out in the fresh air. A group of us decided to skip the optional show of traditional food and dancing and walk around Fes ourselves. One member of our party had found a Chinese restaurant they were keen to try, and so we walked through town to Chez Wong and enjoyed a variety of dishes, fried rice, beers and cocktails at a split of 200 MAD each (the optional group dinner was 300 MAD each). We walked home happy and got a chance to see some different parts of the city too.
Tips:
Toda Crepes, Juice and Icecream – the best crepes in Chefchaouen (25MAD if I remember correctly!)
