Munich, Germany

Welcome back my literary friends!

It felt strange disembarking the train in Munich, given that our last train connected there. The station felt homely and familiar, despite having only spent an hour there before in my life.

It was in this station that I found my favourite dessert/cake the Authentic Bienenstich Kuchen (bee sting cake).

Accommodation for this stay was the Moxy Munich Ostbahnhof, sold as being located ‘right in the action of the new Werksviertel. The city’s most upcoming neighborhood, and all its start-ups to hype the area.’ Well, coming is right! A word to the wise, with all the construction, the hotel is a solid 5-10 minute walk from the station (when carrying suitcases!) and other than a supermarket, there is nothing around. Restaurants that appear on google maps were impossible to walk to due to the construction and closed roadways/pedestrian paths. So after arriving very late, Uber eats was the most straightforward option for dinner.

Local trains in Munich are incredibly easy to navigate, and jumping off anywhere near the city offers shopping, sightseeing and more.

Marienplatz station is an easy one to disembark at, right in the centre of Old Town. Listen to the tolling bells of New Town Hall, Old Town Hall and St Peter’s Church from the square right above the station. Stroll down Old Town and through the Hofgarten before taking in the Englisher Garten which runs alongside the Isar river. The Garden was one of my favourite spots, and perfect for dog lovers as owners walk their dogs of lead through the greenery!

No trip to Germany could be complete without visiting a German Beer Hall! The Bräustüberl of Löwenbräukeller was the hall of choice, complete with servers in lederhosen and apple strudel!

A short but sweet stop in Munich, soaking up the delightful German atmosphere.

Next, join me on to the final stop, St Patrick's day in Dublin, Ireland!
