A Taste of South Australia Day 4

Today we left our delightful home on Kangaroo island to return to the mainland. We’d planned it to board the last ferry back to shore and spend as much of the day enjoying the scenery and tasting other local fare KI is renowned for. On the list was:

  • Vivonne Bay and Jetty (2nd time lucky)

  • Emu Bay

  • Emu Bay Lavender farm

  • King Island Brewery

  • KI Spirits

  • Oyster Farm

The drive back to Vivonne Bay seemed much faster this time, but perhaps it was because we knew (ish) where we were going? I am so glad we decided to take a second pass at it, because it was the most out-of-this-world experience. The water was so crystal blue, it was hard to believe it was real. There was no one in sight, so we had the beach and the jetty to ourselves to take as many photos and videos as we liked. After another car-picnic, we made our way back east across the island and stopped in at Emu Bay for more photos, the Emu Bay Lavender Farm where we sampled a scrumptious scone and lavender jam, the King Island Brewery where a tasting paddle was a must, the same at KISpirits.

Sadly by the time we made it back to the east side of the island, we were too late for the oyster farm, keep in mind if you want to go, they close by 3pm most days.

We returned to Penneshaw and enjoyed a pub dinner at the Penneshaw Hotel before returning the car and relaxing out of the wind at the SeaLink Ferry terminal. Unexpectedly, we boarded the ferry 45 minutes ‘before departure’ and despite our tickets stating a 19:30 (7.30pm) departure, we were halfway through the crossing by 19:15 (7.15pm). A good thing to keep in mind if you are planning a last minute purchase of tickets at the SeaLink for the last ferry of the day.

We boarded the coach and returned to Adelaide in comfort, checking in at the Chancellor on Currie by 10.30pm.
