A Taste of South Australia Day 5

Today is day five of our South Australian adventure!
We awoke to a beautiful Adelaide morning today! The Chancellor Hotel on Currie were so good to us last night, letting us check in late and checkout wasn’t until 11am! We weren’t picking up our hire car until around 11am anyway so we had plenty of time to drop our bags at reception and walk through the iconic Rundle mall to the delightful Exchange cafe.

After breakfast we picked up our bags and collected our car from Thrifty. Today our main goal was to visit Hahndorf (about 35minutes drive from Adelaide). Hahndorf is known as the ‘German Village’ and my goodness it didn’t disappoint! We ate strudel and beesting cake, bought the most delightful gingerbread men, walked through a village store selling steins and cuckoclocks, handmade wares, bathed in the scent of a delicious candle store!

Once we had eaten everything we could fit, we jumped back in the car and finished the drive up to the Barossa Valley. We booked the stunning little Veritas Cottage, which sits on a section of vines on the Rolf Binder's homestead property. Our delightful host stocked the fridge with breakfast supplies for both mornings and gifted a bottle of Shiraz. I am not going to lie, it was one of the best red wines I’ve ever tasted.

Tonight we dolled up and headed into town for a five course degustation at Musque dining. One thing I have to say about the Barossa, they do not stinge on the portion sizes. We could quite easily have fed three to four people on our $65 per head meal, and as we’d missed the oysters the day before, decided we added the dozen half shell scallops to the order. Oh, boy. There was so much food. Every mouthful was utterly delicious (and Instagram worthy!).

I rolled on home, luxuriated in the newly rennovated bathroom at the cottage and slept like a baby.
