Vienna, Austria

Welcome back, my literary friends!

Vienna! The home of Mozart and some of the world's most beautiful architecture.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to stay at the Hilton Vienna Park, with delightful views across Stadtpark. My favourite part about the hotel, hands down, was the breakfast. Three rooms of every kind of breakfast food, including eggs on demand. I enjoyed a delicious eggs benedict, made fresh, right before my eyes!

The stunning Hofburg Palace, Rathauspark, and Rathaus City Hall all grace the skyline with neo-gothic architecture, all within easy walking distance of the hotel.

One accidental find (and well worth a visit) was the catacombs below St Stephen's Cathedral. For less than 10 euro (cash only), the tour consists of a history lesson and a tour through the ancient burial grounds below the city. This tour was one of the city's cheapest and most enjoyable highlights.

An easy train ride from the city, the Schönbrunn Palace is well worth a visit. Marvel at the sheer magnitude of the property and walk through the rolling gardens. One particular treasure is the Palmenhaus, located near the train station on the far side of the grounds. Entry was well worth it to see the international array of flora, including some plants native to my homeland, Australia. Tickets for the Palmenhaus can be purchased at the greenhouse, general entry to the Schönbrunn are not required.

Overall, it was lovely to return to Vienna, and I enjoyed the opportunity to see it by train and visit sights I hadn't seen on my last visit.

Next stop, Prague!
