A Little Digging and a Little Daintree

It is incredible what a difference a few short months can make. In the last few weeks I managed to fly interstate to see my family, help my sister renovate her new home, celebrate my birthday and fly to the Daintree for a quiet getaway. I am currently writing from Cape Tribulation, more to come! The week with my family reminded me of my childhood, everyone pitching in and helping out. Digging holes and concreting in the rain, leaving each night with my glasses covered in paint spatter. Falling into bed exhausted in a way I haven’t felt in years, and sleeping like a baby.

I am starting to feel human again! The only downside to booking these little escapes, is the realisation that I can’t continue to book more and more holidays.

Pre-COVID, I would have an international trip planned every year and several smaller domestic trips booked. As someone who is an organisational freak, I get such enjoyment out of planning and coordinating my vacations. From minute details like where to find the best bagels in NYC, to bigger research projects like which airlines have the best seat to recline ratio or where to stay when searching for the northern lights. There is no limit to the joy a beautifully planned itinerary offers me.

For the meantime, I have to put my travel planning aside and only dream of my future international trips whilst sneaking in domestic getaways. It means more time to focus on my writing and think up new ideas that I can imagine into existence.
