Refresh and Renew

As some of you may have noticed, I've been quiet on social media these past few weeks. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve opened Instagram in at least a fortnight, despite its incessant pinging. A renewed lockdown in Queensland left me a little blue and seeking more distracting ways to occupy my time, and some days, writing really does feel like work. This past month I've struggled with interstate family visits cancelled over Easter and yet another timely threat to my plans to leave my city. Considering the state the world outside our Australian bubble is in, I know this sounds petty, but I'd been so looking forward to these plans.

I have one trip to visit my family and another to head up the Queensland Daintree for a short vacation within the next four weeks. These are the first two sets of flights I'd allowed myself to book since COVID quashed my international plans in early 2020. I have not set foot on an aeroplane since October 2019, the most prolonged period without flight I can remember in over a decade.

This combination of disappointed hopes and the stress circulating around the possibility of my plans being cancelled again, when I'd waited this long to allow myself to hope, has left me feeling tired and a little dejected. Thoughts of, 'why did I bother making plans? I should have known this would happen' continue to rise in my mind. With less than 48 hours until my flight, I am keeping everything crossed that I'll be able to board my plane, land interstate, get COVID tested again and be in the clear.

Hopefully, I'll see you back here in a few weeks, refreshed and ready to conquer the world once again.
